Third and Final Victory - Lake Club Re-Opened Thursday August 6th

The Lake Club reopened its doors to the public on Thursday, August 6th!

The restaurant and the lounge bar were operational once again.

The game room was still being worked on and was therefore closed; otherwise, everything was operational again, despite the natural challenges of support staff returning after being out of work for so long.

Second Victory - Lake Club Doors Reopen August 6th

This coming Thursday, August 6th, will mark a real victory: the Board of Directors has officially approved the reopening of the Lake Club. After weeks of silence, speculation, and a summer of arbitrary closure, our community finally sees the doors opening again.
 
That’s worth acknowledging, and it’s worth celebrating.

The official update confirms an opening date and little else, but at least the doors to the building are being opened again to the public. 

There are no official details announced on what services will be available - no word on how the restaurant and lounge will operate, whether staffing is in place, what the hours will be, or whether this is a full return to normal operations or a partial, phased reopening. 

Rumors and unofficial word from one or more parties connected to the reopening lead me to be very positive that this is a genuine reopening.

Let's continue to stay alert and push for complete recovery of the building and its services. 

Here are my recommendations:

Lake Club Status: Unanswered Questions and Continued Uncertainty

As of today, July 29, 2026, the Lake California Board of Directors has provided no official update regarding when the Lake Club will resume operations. Our community remains in the dark, left to rely on speculation rather than clear, proactive communication from the leadership tasked with managing our shared assets.

We have received unofficial reports suggesting that various private vendors and Tehama County officials are scheduled to conduct inspections. Sources indicate that if these inspections are successful, there is a speculative possibility that portions of the Lake Club could open as early as this Thursday, July 30. However, the process remains opaque and layered with administrative steps that lack a clear timeline. 

Given the lack of official transparency, I remain skeptical that we will see the doors open this week.

As of today, the last official update on the community's official website was posted on July 23rd, 2026:

It is critical to remember that, to the best of our understanding, these inspections were not mandated by any external regulatory body. The closure of the Lake Club was not a legal requirement imposed by any government, health, or safety agency—it was an internal board decision. 

Because the facility was not closed due to a regulatory violation, there is no guarantee that passing these elective inspections will actually result in a reopening.

Our community deserves more than rumors and bureaucratic delays. We call on the Lake California Board of Directors to provide an immediate, transparent explanation for why the entire club remains shuttered. We also call on a definitive timeline for its reopening.

First Victory on the Path to Save the Lake Club

A Meaningful Step Forward for Our Community: The Lake Club Update

There is encouraging news to share regarding our collective efforts to reopen the Lake Club in our Lake California community.

At the Property Owners Association Board of Directors meeting on Tuesday, July 21st, a pivotal proposal was defeated by a majority vote, helping us to keep our community focused on the goal of getting our neighborhood back on track.

To be clear, the Board of Directors has not yet announced a projected reopening date. The official financial report presented at the meeting indicated that the community has spent just over $50,000 to date repairing the Lake Club recreation room following damage caused by raccoons.

The defeated proposal sought to initiate a search for a new management company to oversee all of Lake California, including the Lake Club facilities and staff. 

While starting a search is not the same as agreeing to a new company, many of us recognized that launching such a search at this juncture would likely have pushed the reopening of the Lake Club even further into the background.

As a fellow community member pointed out during the public comment period, a comprehensive search process to evaluate and vet new management firms could take many months. During that extended transition, we risked losing our current Lake Club staff to other employment, which, in my opinion, would have all but guaranteed that the facility and its activities remained closed through the remainder of the summer of 2026. 

Furthermore, as others commented, any disruption to the Lake Club team in the current atmosphere of uncertainty could have created ripple effects for staffing at the POA’s main office as well.

During the discussion, one of the Board members asked a very prudent question of their colleagues: “What problem are we trying to solve by looking for a new management company?” Ultimately, I felt that no satisfactory answer was provided beyond the theoretical possibility of cost savings, leaving the disruption to our neighborhood far outweighing any unproven benefit.

The Power of Community Engagement

Here is the truly encouraging news: the outcome on Tuesday was shaped directly by the faithful involvement of our residents.

A strong turnout of community members - including my wife and me - attended the meeting in person to voice our opposition to the management search and to express our support for preserving the restaurant and lounge services at the Lake Club. 

This successful vote was the direct result of two things:
  1. The physical presence of many concerned community members at the July 21st Board meeting, demonstrating our shared investment in the social life of Lake California.
  2. The written correspondence sent by numerous residents directly to individual board members, articulating a clear desire for stability and continuity.
This event is a reminder that civic involvement matters. 

When we pay attention, speak up respectfully, and work together, we can help guide our community toward wise decisions.

Why Is the Entire Lake Club Still Closed?

The original animal-related issue was reportedly confined to the game-room area. Professional mitigation was performed, and the kitchen, main room, bar, HVAC systems, and alternate entrances have been described as separate from the affected area.

Residents are asking why the usable portions of the Lake Club cannot reopen while any remaining restoration is completed.

We are seeking clear answers about:

  • What work has already been completed.
  • What work remains.
  • Whether any official agency has directed that the entire building remain closed.
  • Who has the authority to approve reopening.
  • What specific condition must be met before the doors can reopen.
  • When residents can expect a reopening date.

Why the Lake Club Matters

The continued closure affects more than those who enjoy dining at the restaurant.

It affects:

  • Employees who rely on their work and customer tips.
  • Residents who have lost an important gathering place.
  • Clubs and community groups that need meeting space.
  • Community events that depend on the facility.
  • The POA financially while the Club cannot generate its normal revenue.
  • The connections that make Lake California feel like a community.
